Anyone that knows the best for preg rats. . .?

Hi, i know it seems strange but long story short i have ended up with 3 girls i think are prob preg and are due this week. How should i deal with this? Should all girls be separated into "tub" type cages to stop fights and escapes? And is there anything i should give them more than i have already to try to make everything ok. .? Any help or advice very welcome. an if anybody is wanting new babies . . . . . . . . x

You will need to separate them before giving birth so they get accustomed to thier surroundings and feel safe and secure.
Chicken and fish will provide ample amounts of protein. Eggs will also provide protein, and you can scramble them in butter to add fat to her diet as well. You can also feed her oatmeal mixed with whole milk or goats milk. This of course should be in addition to a high quality grain and lab block mix, as well as fresh fruits and vegetables. And of course you should always make sure she has plenty of fresh, clean water available.

As for more babies I think there is alot of rat fans on here!! but im afraid I have plenty of piggies to be getting on with myself lol good luck!!!!

Just to say if they arent fully grown rats then be careful giving them too much protein, it can make the pups too large which can cause problems to a small mum.

Re: Anyone that knows the best for preg rats. . .?

Thanks!
I have read LOADS recently just to be sure on things cos it has been a long time since i have kept "normal" rats but some info is conflicting.
I have been giving them brown rice, soya milk, kitten milk, kitten food, baby food and cuttle bone as well as fruit an veg and the usual diet of seeds, supreme selective and rat royal. Is all that ok? anything i should add.....or miss?

Ok i will note that. . . .But i must admit i have been giving them a high protein, high calcium diet as i thought that would be best. They are supposed to be around 14 weeks now,but from some of the others that the vet had to see she thought they were a little older.

Egg food is great after they are born, there are a few rat breeders on here so hopefully they will be along soon to offer their advice. So whats the long story, how did you get them? I hope they are either not pregnant or have small litters if this wasnt deliberate, I know how stressful it was with two mouse litters and they are slightly smaller.

The long story is i had to have them couriered up to scotland cos you dont this type here and it was supposed to be 5 males in 1 carrier and 5 females in the other. But when i was putting them in their cages i noticed 2 of the "females" had extra baggage! So i presume the 3 that are female are now preg. So now looking at average litter sizes i am totally scared!! No idea what i am gonna do with them all!!

Dont panic, we have had loads of unplanned litters on here (my two mice included) and they are amazing at finding homes, rodent runs to take them to other part of the country can probably be organised too, lets hope the girls werent in season on the journey. Can you get compensation off the courier or the breeder to help you out with the costs?

The courier has made no fault(and i couldn't fault them at all) and as for the "breeder" . . . well lets just say i think if i had not have took them they would have been food! So really dont care.I have not even had any reply after telling them that some have RI's

Oh dear, seems to be more bad breeders about than good breeders in the rat world, where I got Itsy and Bitsy from they were in disgusting conditions and were tiny babies, I know I should have walked away but I didnt, they have got over their rubbish start though and are really healthy rats now.
