My girls are fine now but all the boys are still very skittish.I can stoke them (sometimes) but generally they dont really want to know and tend to run if i even try to pick them up! Guess its all due to little or no handling when they were younger. But i'm sure they will all be cuddly and squishy soon! (hopefully!)

Any help or advice very welcome. an if anybody is wanting new babies . . . . . . . . x

When we had our litters we separated each of the mums into a Zoozone type cage (not because they would eat each others kits but because I'd read stories of the adult girls pulling the babies about as they all want to get in to help raise the litter) & also used our spare cage (Ferplast Jenny) with all cage furniture removed so the mums didn't give birth on shelves or hammocks. For bedding we used lots of shredded tissue, mums will make their own (often impressive) nest! Very young mums shouldn't have excessive amounts of protein but should have a good quality mix ad lib, along with lots of fresh vegetables & a bottle of Dr Squiggles a couple of times a week
This has lots of useful info about rat pregnancy & birth
Breeding Guide
Not sure whereabouts in Scotland you are but you could try getting in touch with the Scottish Rat Club & SSPCA & also PAWSS, theres some contacts on their links page
Home - P.A.W.S.S
You could also try breeders in your area, not sure which ones would be reputable though
I have recently raised 3 litters from birth so have a bit of experience, if you have any worries please feel free to PM me
