PLease Help

Hi all, I have 3 female dumbo's 2 are sisters and are 6 months old and one is a baby at around 2 months old. The baby was introduced quite a few weeks ago without any problems. With the older 2 one of them seems to be in heat a lot and quite embarrasingly is always trying to sniff the others bits. There is usually a bit of squeaking but nothing too major until tonight when she is literally attacking the other two. The older one can stand up for herself but the baby can't and is really scared. The noises coming from the cage are so distressing and I don't have a2nd cage to seperate them into. Any ideas, I think I should get her neutered but what do I do tonight. The baby is hiding the litter tray as it's the smallest place she can get into. I feel so sorry for them and am scared to go to bed later.

Re: PLease Help

this is pretty normal behaviour, the older rat is basically telling the baby that she is alpha rat, so lots of noises but it's not fighting or anything like that. girls also do something called dry-humping, they all do it when feeling abit amorous, it's nothing to worry about.

older rattie will eventually decide that baby rat knows it's place and the 'fighting' will die down. the squeaks are rat speak, the baby isn't actually being hurt, it's just protesting loudly.

rats always have a bit of a squabble now and again i wouldn't worry about it unless there are bad wounds (more than scratches).

basically, don't worry about it, it's natural behaviour.

Re: PLease Help

Thanks, i'm not normally worried but tonight the behaviour was worse than ever and terrified the baby who has bite wounds on her now. They have all gone to sleep now in seperate beds so I'm going to leave them alone and hope they are ok over night.
