Sandy's Ill

Sandy's (my gerbil, aged approx 2.6 years) been slow since yesterday, she's not moving much and just sleeping or staying still with her eyes open. She's also not eating.
I'm taking her to the vets but has anyone got any advice in the meantime?

Thanks. I hope so too. Sandy is my last surviving original gerbil. I still remember the day I got her from my sister's unexpected litter (Pets At Home sexed Storm wrong), she was 3 months old approx then as I hadn't decided if I wanted gerbils as I'd never had them before. I was waiting at the bus stop with her and her sister Dusky to take them home.

My girls had a huge fight the other day and Im having to try to rehome the little trouble maker so its a sad time in my gerbil family at the moment too

Awww am sorry i don't know either. That is quite old for a gerbil...she might just be slowing down. The staring might be failing eyesight but the not eating isn't good. Make sure you go to a rodent vet though...others are too easily dismissive of small animals Good luck hun!

Thanks. She never once slowed down until yesterday, she was always just as active as when she was younger, so I'm not sure if it is just slowing down or illness. I checked her teeth, one is slightly long, but not long enough to cause problems and she does have plenty of wood and cardboard. I know an exotics vets that really helped Storm, 2 bus rides away but better than going to my old clueless vets.

Re: Sandy's Ill

No, it's Ashleigh in Whalley Range. I took Storm there and she really improved in her last months after that.Only used them once though, up until now Sandy has been in perfect health.

Thanks. I know I shouldn't have favourites and I treat both my gerbils the same, but Sandy is my last surviving original gerbil and I'm really hoping she'll be OK.
The appointment is at 4.30
