I might have to give up my Girl's :-(

I moved out about 7 month's ago and got 2 Rats right away as i love them to pieces and my mum hates them and is scared of them.

Anyway she want's me to come back home and to be honest i want to go home too but she will not have the Rat's in the house, she is one of these people that see Rat's as dirty, smelly, horrible ugly Animals and it really annoys me that she is that close-minded towards them, she even bought me Hamster's when i was young and she loved them!

But it's her house and her Rules, so if it comes down to it i may have to give them up, there is a 50/50 chance she will just let me bring them but right now she is still saying no!

It really is going to break my heart giving them away, it will play on my mind for long time!
Us 3 of had such fun and funny time's in free range time, they trust and love me so much and too think there is a chance someone or a child could be rough or horrible to them makes me want to cry, and im a Hetrosexual Man!

Im gonna give it a week or 2 and try and convince my mum different, gonna play the guilt trip and see if that works.

My Mum's the same. She did say she'd have Toffee in the house for Christmas day though as he was still meant to be on antibiotics then. No rodents are allowed across her doorstep .

Hope she relents and lets you keep them.

I'd love rats but mum doesn't like them either. Thinks they will spread germs etc! She's not overly keen on the gerbils because they have tails but she doesn't mind the hamsters because you can't see the tails really..

Such a shame because rats seem such nice animals to have Hopefully you can convince her

Re: I might have to give up my Girl's :-(

ask if you can put them in the garage, that's where mine lived for a year when i had to move back home. don't put them in a shed as it's not warm enuogh. garage is fine with the right amount of blankets and draft excluders and bedding

get her to meet them too, show her what they are like (make sure cage is as immaculate as possible . if she can see they're not as she imagined she might let you keep them with strict house rules.

i.e. mine's play time was on teh kitchen floor, which i then had to mop. suited me fine, we sat a nd watched tv for hours i made tea/coffee for anyone who wanted it and mum got a spotless floor daily.

Get loads of pics with you and your girls... And how they act with you.. and slowly start showing her.. she may just see what you mean to her... I couldn't imagine chilling in the living room without my boys...

Re: I might have to give up my Girl's :-(

Perhaps get them a play pen and buy an off cut of lino to completely cover the carpet when they are out??
My mum was phobic about rodents til I got mine but she gradually came round and thinks they are quite sweet now! (although she never wants to touch one!!).
