Re: HELLLP!!!! hammy escaped!

Oh dear! my friend's hamster escaped recently when they moved home - she got behind the sink unit and into a gap in the floorboards - was there for 5 days!

They put food out for her and she came and ate it and then the managed to catch her on the 5th day of her great escape - not easy to leave it to it's own devices if you have a dog or cat in the house though!

Good luck - post when you find hammy!

don't know what to suggest - 1 of my dogs got 1 of my Guinea Pigs in it's mouth once - fortunately she let go when I screamed at her - GP lived to tell the tale.

Do you know what room hammy is in? so that pup can be kept away?

My friend called the RSPCA for help but said they were pretty useless.

Re: HELLLP!!!! hammy escaped!

2 suggestions first stand on a chair and look along the tops of all you cupboards/units. Samson one of my daughters hamsters was lost for 2 days until I thought 'hamster', they like to climb so check the cupboard tops and sure enough there he was stuck on the top of a wall unit because he couldn't work out how to get down again. Boy was he glad to see me.
The other is to get a deep container that they can't climb out of full of treats and bedding, put a piece of wood or similar to make a ramp and leave a trail of food along the ramp, in theory they climb the ramp and into the container and get stuck, problem solved. Old glass fish tanks are good for this.
Hope you find him/her soon.
