Help needed with my boys

My two oldest boys are now 6 months. My problem is the two in question keeping biting my husband. The first time it happened he had his hand in the cage and was slowly stroking one and letting him sniff his hand then out of no where Alfie slowly opened his mouth and went to bite my OH, luckily I seen it coming and managed to get my others half hand out of there.

This morning my OH was pushing the cage (it's an abode on wheels) and Marley stuck his head through the large gap at the top and really bit him hard. His finger was pouring in blood. His fingers wasn't even through the bars but Marley had grabbed it!!! They are fine with me, they've always been friendly but shy. They have never bit me but then I never give them the opportunity. When they were younger I was able to put my fingers through the bars and they would nibble me but they started to get grabby so I stopped doing it. I have never fed them through the bars so I couldn't understand Marleys behaviour.

My other two are completely fine and have always been outgoing and friendly. I'm wondering if it's either the dreaded hormones or the fact that my two oldest are rescue rats, my youngest two (4 month old) came from Daisymoo and i've never had a problem with them

Just wondering what your thoughts are on this

Re: Help needed with my boys

I've only got hamsters, so feell free to ignore me

Some of my hamsters will bite if I invade their space. In fact Sandy will attack anything that brushes against her cage. However out of the cage they are cute and friendly.

Marley in my opinion is a big far squishy lazy rat, he's absolutely fine with me again he is shy when I go to pick him up but once I have hold of him he is fine!! I just don't understand it?? (maybe it's because he is soooo fat he he)

I used to have hamsters years ago and they were very tempermental lol

Re: Help needed with my boys

He doesn't sound like he's being nasty...maybe overexcited? Mine grab with their paws through the bars sometimes if I stand close to the cage or if they smell something different. As for the biting, if he was moving slowly, I doubt it was meant to harm. Perhaps he was wanting to test nibble? I've always thought that if a rat meant to bite someone, they'd lunge rather quickly.

Oops ignore me, skipped the bit with the blood >.<

Re: Help needed with my boys

Im sorry but Rats seem to think if fingers come to bars.. That you are food and will go for a chomp..

Re him opening his mouth real slow I would say he was going to have a baby taster.. Jason will do it occasionally. I reckon if he was being nasty he would have not missed and would have scampered..

Re: Help needed with my boys

Dont think they were purposely trying to hurt your oh. I have never fed my girls through the bars but they still grab at anything they can reach.
