Over the top?

One of the hammies I bred went to her new home last week and the owner has been keeping in touch with pictures and asking anything they aren't sure about. They text not long ago when my friend was round and she said I'm being over the top keeping in conact with someone over a hamster.. I feel I bred that animal so it is my responsiblity and I'm more than happy to help with any problems. It's anoyed me because be it a hamster or puppy I have bred I would want to help the owner.

Is is really over the top or is my friend just being stupid?

The hammy couldn't have went to a better home anyway because before getting her they were asking me what cage to get, best size wheel etc and brought it all along to show me to make sure I was happy.

Re: Over the top?

You're friends a moron (Sorry if that's too harsh) pets are like family and you want them to have the best lives! It's perfectly fine to keep in contact and be curious to how they are treating your little guy/gal, if I ever breed my degus or if I breed other animals I'll be checking up on them every so often to check they're ok and stuff!

Re: Over the top?

I take it your friend isn't an animal lover... you keep up the good work, and you'll be able to sleep at night knowing your hammies are well loved and well cared for x

Re: Over the top?

She likes animals but just thinks its stupid keeping in contact with a breeder.

Even at agility (they got her on Thursday) they were texting saying thanks so much for letting us have her etc and I was telling a few people about it. They just laughed asif I was crazy too. Some people seem to think it's only cats and dogs that deserve attention and that rodents should sit doing nothing.

Re: Over the top?

I like rodents more then cats and dogs, Dogs are proper users, and they can turn on you for no reason, even if you give them love and attention, something like, a hamster aren't like that (or havent been for me) They've been nice and sweet!

Re: Over the top?

I kept in contact with the lady who i got Dinioff....resulting in my two baby rats But on a serious note no i don't think it over the top! They will trust you as a breeder and you will trust them! Plus you could make friends who think along the same lines as you!

Re: Over the top?

I don't think it's over the top. You want to make sure your hamster baby has gone to the best home and make sure that it stays ok. How is that different to a dog or cat breeder doing the same?

Re: Over the top?

Nah there's nothing wrong with it!

it's up to you if you want to keep in touch, it's no different to keeping in touch with a puppy/kitten owner, you bred the animal and it's no less important than a cat or dog

Re: Over the top?

Its not over the top at all, in fact i think its fab as you know how your little fur baby is doing and the owner has peace of mind that they can get advice should they need it. to me it seems like its win/win

There should be more breeders like you about!
