Question Gerbil/Hamster Diet

I've always shared food between my gerbils and hamster, either they all have hamster food or all have gerbil food, whatever is cheapest. I was just reading another thread about how hamster food made a degu diabetic and I wondered if carrying on with food sharing would be a problem?

Re: Gerbil/Hamster Diet

I always thought that Gerbils shouldnt be fed hamster food Because of the higher fat content from nuts and sunflowers. I could be wrong though but im sure that is what i read up when i first got my gerbils. My gerbils have a pellet feed now as they were selective feeders, taking all the fatty stuff and leaving the nutritious stuff.

I feed the P@H gerbil/mice food. Cant find any thats just for gerbils. I pick the seeds and nuts out of it and Josey gets them as treats.

I used to buy the gerbil/mouse mix from P@H but found they were very picky on what they ate. They always left the grass seeds and the green and orange bits and mainly ate just the nuts and sunflower seeds. i tried leaving the food in there for several days but they would rather starve than eat the bits they didnt want so i changed foods when i came accross this gerbil pellet to prevent selective feeding. It's expensive but my gerbils eat the whole bowl rather than just bits and pieces so im happy to spend the extra money for this. here is what i buy
Beaphar Care Plus Gerbil Food 250g
