The Norwich Hutch Rats (piccies & a video!)

As some of you on here know from my copious Facebook status updates, last Saturday I helped out with an urgent rescue of a group of rats. Their former 'owner' (who was breeding them to feed his snakes) had been kicked out of his flat & had left the rats in a rabbit hutch in the garden at his mother's house, coming over just once a week to feed them as they were starving & neglected they'd eaten each other & there were just 13 left of an estimated 40
There were 9 bucks, 3 does & a single surviving kitten of about 3 weeks old, most of the bucks have now gone via rat train to other parts of the country to be fostered & spoiled after the hell they've been through, although 2 have remained with the lady who arranged the rescue. The girls & kitten have come to stay with me & are currently in quarantine before I intro them to my girls. They have been here a week now & the difference is amazing, they were totally unhandleable & utterly terrified of humans when they arrived but are now sniffing our hands & will actually allow us to pick them up. They've had toys, tubes & hammocks for possibly the 1st time in their lives & have now really started to explore their surroundings. They are currently on antibiotics, Lactol, EMP & other things to ensure they recover & are being thoroughly spoilt here
Sorry for the lack of baby pictures of agouti Astrid but she really is a handful & totally wild

This is Ki, black hooded

This is Pippa, blazed agouti (possibly blue agouti) capped

This is Tau, blazed variegated (possibly mink or cinnamon, its hard to tell as her coat has brightened in the last week!) with Pippa

Tau again

& here's a video Mark took of them when we put them back after their cleanout today

Its an amazing thing youve done, I wouldnt have wanted to be in your shoes at all, they look so happy and relaxed in their big clean cage. So glad they are safe and loved now, rip the little ones who didnt make it.

They poor wee souls, there would be a huge uproar if this was done to dogs but sadly the abuse done to these guys wouldnt be taken seriously. I hope the remaining ratties get to live out the rest of their lives in happyness. Good for you for helping them x

Btw cant believe 45 people have read this but its only got 2 comments.
