Re: Need help on deciding what type of hamster to get

Thanks for the help again.

Been looking online, and in a couple of stores the last few days...the dimensions of the hamster cages on display aren't impressing me, so I was leaning towards the idea of getting a guinea pig cage (as mentioned in here) so I could give him/her a large home (kit it out with toys and a place to hide).

Have decided on a Syrian now

Also what size do males and female Syrians grow to roughly (cm/inches)? I've been looking online but estimates seem to vary

Im pretty sure a Syrian would get out of a guinea pig cage.... unless the bars were very narrow...

Agreed you would have to mesh the cage. The hamster heaven is pretty big, hamster proof, and nice things like the hideout on top...plus if you had the space you could add another cage to it. xx

Yep, so far I've written off quite a few due to the wire bar spaces...one thing I know of thanks to forums + youtube is that hamsters have no grievances with escaping

Also any help with the sizes of average adult males/females would be really useful...I've only seen hamster younglings

I think it all depends on the hamsters.. My girls seem to be bigger than my boys... and Princesss Neeco is like a Russian wrestler..lol

Chewie bear on my stairs.. a little idea of size p Neeco is bigger

P Neeco when she was a baby on my keyboard..

P neeco apprx 10 weeks old.. so still a fair bit of growing and boy did she grow..lol

Fred is smaller than the girls although a hairy beast..

Re: Need help on deciding what type of hamster to get

The hamster heaven cages are the same size as a Nero 2 guinea pig cage but have the right bar spacings for an hamster. I doubt you could get a better cage and as long as your hamster comes out for play then I'm sure he/she will be fine.

I have heard males make better pets although saying that I have two females and they are fine too.

This is my daughters hamster 'Honey' when she was young. I think she was fully grown there.

Misty our other Syrian.
