Re: are Syrian Hamster usually...

sorry for the tardiness in replying folks.

I have tried offering Onions treats placed in mt hand and i've tried talking to her etc but none of it works.

Perhaps i should just reconcile myself to having a mean hamster! with her being female and what others have said, perhaps that endemic of female hamsters as wella s female humans?

Re: are Syrian Hamster usually...

Yeah males do tend to be more laid back. Though both my girlies are lovely...ask Daisymoo ... in and out the cage...am very lucky I guess. But maybe she will never be completely handleable...though I wouldn't give up on her. She is still quite young. Calm, low soft voices have helped tame a couple of wild rodents, and try not to smell of other animals and/or food when you go near her. I also have a rule...the key is confidence...so if I don't manage to pick up an animal the first time...i tend to leave it for a little while before trying again. The worst thing is to chase them around the cage as this just seems to make them skitty and nervous of me. The biting and esp the biting and pooing is a sign of fear...I would give her time. If she is taking trats out of your hand that is a great sign anyways xx
