there are loads of sites and books you can read to get the info/knowledge you need, most pet owners are the 'experts' as they know their pets better than the vet will, the vets only know diseases and problems specific to the types of animals.

just cos you're not a qualified vet doesn't mean you don't know what you're talking about.
Yes I agree. When I go to the vet with one of my guinea pigs I usually get advice from guinea pig forums and tell the vet what I want to try. The last vet I took my guinea pig to admitted she knew nothing about them and it showed. They had a guinea pig savvy vet but unfortunately they booked me in with the non savvy vet.

Thanks guys, you have all made me feel a lot better. I always go to the vets armed with a lot of info and I suppose I just need at it.

Thanks everyone x

Re: I am never owning rats again!

I had the same problem with my dog a few months back and was mugged for £180 in just three visits. With my rats I've never had to take them to a vet but I found an exotic vets just in case one of them fell ill. Unfortunately this is something to consider before getting them. I had to think long and hard before adding another two boys to my existing boys. Don't worry things will get better x
