I recently bought a second male hamster, he must be 7 weeks now and i already had a girl who is around 4 months old.
Anyway i keep their cages right next to each other and they stare at each other then go absolutely crazy and climb up the cage at the same time and run around their cages together. So if 1 does something the other one does the same thing.

Are they being territorial and want to fight or do they just want to mate. Should i move the cages further apart? xx

When the female is in season...which is around every 4 days then she will let the male mate her. Otherwise she particularly will fight to the death. My Charlie(RIP) was kept quite near both my girl...though he only went crazy when the girls climbed teasingly on top of his cage. I found when my girls came in heat they would just run round and round the cage! Though I have to say I never noticed this behaviour till I actually got a male
