Any help for my Rats?

Ive had my 2 female Rats for about 3 months now, i used to let them out for a couple of hours a day, but when i found they chewed all my surround sound speaker cables to pieces i havent let them out since.

Their getting a bit bigger now, and i feel guilty not letting them out their cage so i compensate by giving them alot of treats lol, i do handle them but it would be nice to just lave their cage door open sometimes and let them have a run around.

Do any of you have any ideas of how i can let them run around but prevent my cables from being eaten, my bedroom is basically 2 Sofa's in 1 corner and my T.V, Xbox, and a load of wires in the corner, but the surround sound obviously goes through my room

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Any help for my Rats?

you could find a room in the house that has no wires, like a hallway or bathroom. you could also build a playpen.

rats need time out of their cage so it's important that you arrange their free range space as soon as possible.

I share a house with 3 other lads, so the other rooms are out the question, please explain more about the playpen.

NEW LARGE 8 SIDE RABBIT PUPPY DOG PLAY PEN & NET on eBay (end time 07-Oct-10 19:48:06 BST)

I used 4 pieces of plywood. Each piece was 4ft x 2ft. I cut slits in the corners of each piece so they slotted in together to make a square. It worked well for baby rats, but as they got bigger, they started being able to jump out (they can jump 2ft vertically). So if you build a playpen, make the sides around 3ft or taller. It was cheap to make and a good choice if you are short on space.

Not that easy, in 1 corner of my room, where all my T.V, Xbox is ect there are a crap load of wires, their easy to block off i can just throw a towl over them, but the surround sound cables run off in different directions and their very thin.
