Talking Hamster Cage Advice!

Hey Pet Forums!

My dad got a 3foot long, 1foot wide, 18inch high tank for free of my uncle and he has no real use for it. I currently have 2 chinese dwarf hamsters and they are in a tank the same size EXCEPT its only 2foot long and not 3foot long. This size cage (2ft) is perfect for them and they have enough space. It has 2 glass shelves in it so they have multiple levels and plenty to keep them occupied. But i was wondering COULD I move them into the 3foot tank? I'd put the glass shelves from the 2ft tank into the 3ft tank so they still had the multiple levels. Would a 3foot tank be too big and make them feel really distressed or vulnerable?
I'd love to move them because
1. More room for them
2. Give them more toys
3. Reduce the risk of fighting as they will have more space to them selves.
4. Put the tank to use
5. I can use the old 2ft tank for my land snails (after removing the glass shelves)

What do you think?

Re: Hamster Cage Advice!

Go for it! The hammies would love more space. I doubt they'd feel distressed or anything.
Plus you have listed 5 good reasons for moving them

Yeah go for it. I have 4 winter whites in a nearly 4ft cage...and then they only really just have enough space! So yeah that sounds better for them, xx

Talking Re: Hamster Cage Advice!

thanks so much guys! really what I wanted to hear do you know any good websites that make screen tops/mesh lids for glass tanks?
only downside to that 3foot tank is it don't have a lid and I don't wanna risk having any escapees! D:

Re: Hamster Cage Advice!

I dont know any places that make lids.
Your best bet is to just make one. Get some mesh, measure it out so it's a little bigger than the cage, then fold down the sides. Perhaps secure some wood onto the ends of the mesh so it weights it down a little.
Cheap and simple!
