Re: 1st winter for my guinea pigs

i always overwintered my g.pigs outside! i would advise keeping their bed topped up in warm and dry straw and invest in a hutch cover or do what i did and insulate the hutch from the outside (i used an old foam camping mattress) and a peice of tarpauline over the frount to keep the wind off them! this always worked for me... oh and make sure you have a spare water bottle so you can swap them over in the morning if it has frozen over or buy a bottle cover.

Just make sure they have plenty of straw and hay.
Some people put a smaller house/closed in bed in the hutch full of hay for their guinea pigs to snuggle in.

Keep the hutch well covered, I use old sleeping bags with tarpaulin over the top on my hutch.

A 'snuggle safe' would be good. It's like a hot water bottle for animals. I think it keeps warm for about 10 hours or something after you've heated it in the microwave for a few minutes. You could pop this in the hutch for the night, and then in the morning re-heat in so it lasts for the day.

Here's what it looks like
SnuggleSafe Heat Pad for Pets: Great Deals on Dog Care Products at zooplus

I've used it before, it is very effective. They also sell them in some P@H stores x
