Smile Blimey!!!!!!

well i decided to take some photos to update my thread from earlier as i had checked when got back from work and she was huge! well went to take the pics and guess what i found??

a rather skinnier mouse and a nest of pink aliens havent touched the nest, just fed her and took some pics whilst she was eating!

they sooooo cute, dont wanna touch them just incase she eats them.

just uploading the pics now!

things i need to know;
  • will the other girly hurt them, she seems more protective than the actual mother
  • can i still handle her while she nursing- havent yet, asking first . .
  • do i need to be giving her anything to help her
  • why has the other girl become all jumpy- like the flea thing people have mentioned about the babies??

Re: Blimey!!!!!!

i used to feed my nursing mothers bread and milk... try to make it wholemeal so it has a little more nutition. my mice where fine with each other when one had given birth. i mated all 4 at once and they all suckled the heap of babies (i only bred each mouse twice) when they have their eyes open they will jump! i used to sit in the bath (empty obviously) and handle the babies when they were 2 weeks and above as they could not escape! very cute btw

Re: Blimey!!!!!!

also make sure that if you use a water bowel then it is placed as far away from the nest as possible. i used to use a little sheey glass for my mice and i found a baby in it that had dropped in there as it was suckling and mum went for a drink! it did survive as i caught it in time.

BAsically yes. As much as she can. Lots of high protein foods like a little scrambled egg etc. If the other babies are still OK...see if you can see a white band around their tummies...called the milk band...indicates they're getting enough milk...so yes if they are OK the baby who was killed was probably ill/weak and wouldn't have made it anyways. Mother rodents do this. xx
