Talking How old???

I bought this hamster from my local pet shop 2 days ago and they never actually said how old he was. They were about to tell me then stopped, i think because of a distraction.
Anyway i was just wondering if anyone could tell the age of my male syrian Yoshi xx

Re: How old???

He looks pretty young. Has a similar face and build to my SIL's hammie at 6 weeks...so could be anywhere between 6-10 weeks. I don't think pet shops are allowed to sell animals older than 12 weeks or something like that.

Oh wow thanks both of you, you were right 6 weeks

How old do both the females and males have to be before you breed them? xx

He's lovely

Think it's 4 months old for females. I personaly wouldn't go breeding a petshop hamster unless you knew it's history etc

Re: How old???

He is gorgeous!! I love the 2nd pic of him what a cute little face and Yoshi is a great name by the way , but maybe I am a little biased

You are entering dangerous territory on here mentioning breeding!!! (some people on here like to voice their opinions about this subject a bit too aggressively) but I bred my hamsters Marley and Phoebe who were both from a petshop and their babies were healthy and very tame (as Niki will tell you ) Marley was 11 months old and Phoebe was 4 months old when I bred them.

Is Yoshi tame?

Re: How old???

Yeah he is very tame for a new hamster and i got him from my local pet shop.

My other one Cookie, i got her from pets at home, she has taken a while to settle in but she is fine now after a month!

But yeah yoshi has settled in very well and is very tame and lets you hold him all the time. x x

Re: How old???

Please seek out a proper hamster breeder for mentorship who is breeding with direction for improving genetics, health and temperament and not breed pet shop hamsters of unknown backgrounds. There could be some nasty hidden genetics causing a lot of problems, and a lot of sick/aggressive babies to rehome. Please I urge you to ask for someone's guidance in regards to breeding.

I've learnt there's no point in asking people to stop, because if they want to do something so they'll do it regardless of consequence, but please please please get advice from proper breeders, do some research into genetics and hamster husbandry. Please think of the lives involved.
