Insects and gerbils.........

My little gerbil has eaten 2 Crane flies that fell into her cage.......are they poisonous to rodents? She ate them so fast it was like she was starved! She loved them!

If she is allowed them then she i will give her plenty! Over here at he moment they are everywhere, and i am TERRIFIED of insects and flying ones. So if they come in and get swatted by the cats then she can have them if they don't eat them first!

(if one comes in when i let the dogs out as with all ''things'' i leave the cats in the room and shut the door.............go back in... job done!)

In the wild they do eat insects as a protein, but i imagine Cranes are not a staple part of it. So i was double checking they are ok!

Re: Insects and gerbils.........

to be honest there generally pretty good at avoiding things that they souldnt eat. I would imagine that there would be a selection of bugs and insects they would go for if given the chance.

Re: Insects and gerbils.........

I know they can eat some insects and I'd give mine them but I don't like the idea of feeding something thats alive plus what happens if they don't eat them

you share your bed or lounge with it. yuck. We had a lizard before and had a few escapee crickets made me crawl. But we discovered they head for drains for the water.

Re: Insects and gerbils.........

i would think they would be okay but i'd maybe be a little bit cautious just in case they have some kind of insecticide/pesticide in them as you don't know where they've been before being in your house!

although I think im probably just being a worry wart

I got a huge tub of dried mealworms thinking "yeah my animals will love these!" Gerbils weren't interested. Parrot wasn't interested. Finches weren't interested. Even the greedy dogs weren't interested

I think they'd eat live ones but it's not worth it for my mum's reaction if I brought them into the house
