Is it weird??

that my 2 new rat babies dont seem to hang out together??
Ok, so one is braver then the other and will come and investigate you more then the shyer one but when their sleeping they each go to a seperate place. Ive just removed their tunnels and deep boxes so they can get used to me being around but they still dont seem to be acknowledging each other.

Re: Is it weird??

not weird at all, they will be interacting just not when you're around to see it probably

don't remove their toys etc, they'll get bored, even if they are in their toys they will still know you're there, hear and smell you.

to get them used to you, try and stay near the cage if not right next to it as much as possible.
i used to put mine on the settee next to me while watching tv/ doing homework etc and talk to them, have my hand in the cage door so they can get used to my hand and not be scared of it coming in letting them climb over it, nibble and scent-mark it.

handle them as much as possible too, you don't need to hold them the whole time, but let them climb over/around you, in your clothes.. hoodies are great for this (wear old clothes cos 9/10 they will put holes in them). just being around you is enough for them to get use to your presence, they'll quickly learn you're alpha rat and no danger.
if they don't like being picked up, let them come to you, open the door and let them clamber out on to you rather than pick them up. or see if they will climb on your open hand when its in the cage.

as the saying goes "slowly slowly catchee monkey"

have fun

Re: Is it weird??

ahh, so they are having secret parties when Im not around!!
BTW dont worry, I havent removed all their toys just collapsed their tunnels down and taken away their large box so they get used to seeing me and dont disappear from sight all together. They have a ton of boxes, balls, hammocks and climbing frames in their cage. (also their own squashy armchair that I bought in a sale!).
Coz Ezri was always in the tunnels at the top of the cage and Audrid was always down the bottom I was beginning to think she had vertigo!!
