Unhappy Guineapig passed away..help?

New to the forum but need advice..Had 2 guineapigs both sisters from the same litter and were due to turn 2 this december..but one has just died this morning she was attacked 2days ago by the dog and was taken to the vet where she had madicane to pick her back up and although the physical wounds seemed ok i think the shock made her give up as she stopped eating and was found cold and dead in cage this morning..as you can imagine me and my two nlittle girls whose guineapigs they were are heartbroken and inconsolable but what worrying is how the other guineapig will manage without her sister and companion..the one thats left is the shy one out the 2 always the follower and not as sociable as the one that died, she tended to eat second and follow her sister around, i am worried how she will deal with the death of her sister..will she pine and what advice do you give to help her get over her sisters death..will she become deppressed and whats the best thing to do????? also is burying my guineapig the best thing she in a box at the moment in the cage with her sister as didnt want to part them straight away..just dont know wht to do for the best? any advice would be greatfully received at this very sad time. x

Re: Guineapig passed away..help?

Hiya, didn't want to read and not post anything but just wanted to say there are plenty of guinea pig people on here, someone will hopefully be along with advice soon. I don't know enough about them to advise properly on that unfortunately but i'd like to wish you best of luck with your remaining guinea and hope she is okay, sorry to hear about your other one x

Re: Guineapig passed away..help?

I'm so sorry to hear that and yes it would have been the shock that killed her I think. How did the dog get her do you know? Is she an inside piggy or an outside one? If she was mine I would get an indoor cage and bring her inside and give her loads of attention. If she is to be kept outdoors then I think getting another friend for her would be best because guinea pigs do get lonely without company. I have four inside piggies who all live separately and nine piggies in the shed in five hutches.

Re: Guineapig passed away..help?

Hi Tykkaboo,
I am really sorry for ur loss
Now, I know more about hamsters than guinea pigs, but I think maybe getting her a new friend now to keep her company would be a good idea... I hope a more experienced person in guinea pigs would give u a sure answer soon...

Sending you all warm thoughts...

Re: Guineapig passed away..help?

I've never had a problem with a grieving piggie as such becaue mine are all in more than pairs apart from 1 pair and one is getting old and probaly only has weeks left..

Some peoples piggies can stop eating because they miss their friend. Getting another one would probaly help aswell as giving her lots of cuddles and her fav foods. When any of mine have passed I put them in with their friends for a few mins but all the piggies run away asif they can sense what has happened but they sniff and say their good byes.

Sorry to hear about your loss
