I can't believe I'm doing this...

New home needed for Rumba, Bambi and Grace

The reason I am rehoming is because lately, top rat Chandon has been a bit low health wise (she has respy trouble) Anyway, since then, Rumba has really being causing trouble, fighting with all the others apart from her beloved sister Bambi and Bambi's pal Grace. This has caused more friction in the group and I have decided to seperate them into 4 and 3. Now this wouldn't be a problem, but I cannot afford the costs of extra substrate, litter, bedding and new cage accesories and in addition, as you know I am really struggling with Rumba's aggression. She is perfectly lovely when friends come round and she doesn't bite them, but she always bites me. I don't know why this is, I have never dropped her, handled her badly or hurt her. She has just taken a REAL dislike to me

I can't go on as it causing trouble with my bond with the other rats as when I try to handle them she stirs up trouble. For example, tonight I popped some ratty biscuits in and she ran upstairs, didn't even stop to think and bit me badly on my finger. My friend then put her hand in the cage and Rumba just sat that and bumbled about. I have tried hard to get a relationship with her...and failed miserably. She obviously needs someone more brave and experianced.

It is so upsetting as I feel I have let her down, but hopefully this will help her and be the best for her. Obviously I would never split her up from Bambi, her sister. Now, Bambi has very poor vision and her and Rumba have a lovely bond. Bambi is sweet as pie, a little nervous, a very big, beautiful girl!
BUT she is very close to Grace to, so I have made the hard desicion to keep all three together. Grace is very very pretty but really nervous. She is really lovely natured and is okay when you have got her...just a typical squeaky, on the go little girly.

I don't want any money for them just a loving and experiance home. I have not given up hope on her being intregated into a group with the others, as long as she can be top dog - well rat! - and I honestly feel that she will be perfectly lovely to you!

Please please get in touch if you can help her...I'd love them to go to one of you.

Please don't be mad or annoyed at me, I am not just fobbing them off! You know how much I love my girls.

Pics are here, Rumba is the silver fawn hooded, Bambi is the beautiful big buff capped and Grace is the dainty little Siamese.
They are all pets at home adoptions and all in good health.

thanks hun...I was going to split the cage, or atm they are in the ferplast furet, but yeah, I'm struggling to cope with her in the group and with me.
If she was fine with me, there would be no real problem, she could just go in a seperate cage with her pals.

I'm so sorry you feel you have to rehome these 3
I can't give much advice with regards to Rumba's aggression towards you. I have an aggressive girl, although she's only drawn blood once so its not really a problem & she doesn't cause problems for her cagemates
I hope you find them a good home xx

thanks hun

I'm just gutted and I am so worried I'm not going to find them anywhere to go... I just want what is best for them and I obviously can't offer them what they need.

Re: I can't believe I'm doing this...

Thank you all...I think I have found a home for them with my college lecturer. They will live at college but not be handled by the students, so they will be cared for well, I will get to see them, but they will only be handled by my lecturer! Fingers crossed it all goes through

ETA: and the technisons will of course handle them too

Re: I can't believe I'm doing this...

the technisions care for the animals all year round, there are so many on site they can't take them home so they carry on working all through the holidays, every day of the year!

there is a free range enclosure on site, with lots of toys and enrichment.

ETA: my lecturer will probably take them home anyway in the holidays as they are hers and not the college's. they will stay at college and be cared for by the technisons if she is on holiday or anything like that.
