Question Traveling more often?

Hello!

I'm thinking about getting a hamster or guinea pig but I have one concern in mind. I'm studying abroad and I travel back and forth by plane and car during holidays.
I know they're very sensitive and stress out easily so I would like to know how they would respond to something like this and if it's a good idea to get one at all.

Since a dog or cat is out of the question, this would be a nice new pet.

Thanks in advance for your opinions!
Alex

Re: Traveling more often?

it depends on how long the journeys are. I've travelled 230miles with chinchillas in the back seat of the car (in a carrier of course) and no problems

Re: Traveling more often?

my hammys where 3 hours on a train ok. I think it depends on the conditions, so check with the airline, have enough air going to them too

Re: Traveling more often?

Well it's about 600 miles ... but I'm mostly worried about the plane ... it's not a long flight (1,5 hours) but it still might come as a big shock to such a small pet ... and having to fly every 3 months

thanks for all the quick responses by the way

Re: Traveling more often?

where the earth are you studying?!

Ask the airline - they will be the best to advise you on how they care IF they care for them, they may not let u fly with them.

Re: Traveling more often?

From what I've read, they let you fly with them as hand baggage so that should be ok. But I'll ask the airline anyway to check.
I just wanted to know if it's safe for them to fly that often
I have a huge german shephard at home so when I see something as tiny as a hamster I can easily think they would die of a heart attack on a plane

As for where the other question I'm studying in Vienna and I'm from Romania, so it's a bit of a long road in between.

Re: Traveling more often?

wow!!
I would love to visit Romania.

Ahhh German Shepards!! Male or female?

I saw one the other day - I wanted to pinch it, was a stunning male, didn't look too old either
