Well they finally arrived, after a long night of me worrying and watching over mum. We have six pups born between 9am and 1pm. Four have black eyes, 2 have pink eyes. That means that we have 4 that will be either agouti or black, and 2 that could be argente golden, argente cream, lilac, dove, pink-eyed white or dark-tailed white. And any or all of them could end up spotted, pied, patched or mottled. Mum is doing perfectly - Dad's not bad either! A bit miffed that he was forcibly divorced from his wife for the purposes of family planning, but he'll soon be joined by either one of the pups if there's a male, or a new "outsider" gerbil boy or two.

Kenya's second litter of 6 born on Nov 12!

Sadly one of the pups died today. It was the second born, one with black eyes. Looks like it was a little boy. He had a bit of a cut on his face so I think mum was just too rough with him. But he was born with a big purple bruise on his nose so he may have had problems to begin with. Just one of those things unfortunately. He did have a full tummy when he died though. The milk in his stomach was clearly visible through the skin. So at least he died happy.

He's buried in my flowerbed now. I cried for the little guy

The remaining 5 have grown even in 36 hours. Very early days yet, but there seems to be one of the black-eyed pups with some white spot markings. The pink-eyed ones are still very pink, but the ones that will have dark coats have quite a bit of skin pigment coming in already.

I haven't had any babies in the house for six months now - I forgot just how fast they grow! I'm about to upload the promised videos to YouTube right now, so please do come and view them.
