And I have a couple different types of moss that I've collected fresh and live straight from private wooded property. I have 2 kinds of Sheet moss and Cushion moss. All the sheet moss is completely clean and the Cushion moss still has some dirt on bottom to hold it together. No pesticide or chemicals cleaned with plain ol' H20.

The sheet moss is at least 1sqft+ per sheet but irregularly shaped but you could easily make it into a nice shape with a little trimming and shaping. Only have like 5-10 sheet of each since I harvest to order fresh so it doesn't sit to long

The cushion moss is clumps at least hand/palm size you can get bigger sizes but they are harder to collect but are possible to get.

Should be fine for live creatures to roam on it unless its a moss they shouldn't be near. Id also water it with as much non tap water as possible since it will keep color longer.

Here is a cool picture of a nice cushion moss i harvested it is 18Lx14W and was pretty hard to get because i need a lot of the dirt that was underneath lol
