I found Miguel, my 6 year old black and white gerbil, curled up in the corner of his tank this morning. He looked more peacful than he has done for the past week now, as he had been showing his age. Heavy breathing and wobbly legs, though he still scampered around, jumping around his levels and was eating and drinking.
He died peacfully in his sleep, and i am so greatful for that.
He deserves a good long rest after all these years.

I know it may sound silly, because he is a gerbil, but he means as much to me as any of my animals.

I'm going to bury him later when the family are all home.

I don't think it is silly at all - I cried loads when my hamster died. Six is a very good age for a gerbil isn't it? Or do they live a lot longer than hammies?

I'm glad your small furry looked peaceful and hope he is having fun at rainbow bridge.

It isn't silly at all when you have looked after and cared for a pet of course they mean a lot to us.

it isnt silly at all, one of my gerbills died earlier this and its was a very sad time . So sorry for your loss R.I.P Miguel
