I miss him!

I feel i've made the wrong decision!
I have put my cat to sleep, i felt i was doing the right thing but now i'm feeling so much regret. He had a tumour in his stomach but he was in no pain, his belly had gotten really big with all the fluid surrounding the tumour and he mostly wanted to sleep but he still ate a little, maybe just under a sachet a day, he was still passing urine. They said they could drain the fluid off which could prolong his life but they couldn't say how long as in the end as he has got a terminal illness. I just keep seeing his lifeless body and i wish i had left it longer, he may have been a little different in himself but i feel he was quite happy just sleeping. I miss him so much and i can't stop crying. I don't feel like i said goodbye properly and i rushed into the decision before actually thinking about it. I know he wasn't going to be around forever but i feel i should of kept him with me until it felt like it was affecting him more, so that putting him asleep felt justified. He must of wondered why i was doing this to him. I feel so upset and sad. I wish i had kept him longer! I wish he was still here!

Re: I miss him!

You did absolutely the right thing, its the hardest thing to do sometimes but it was in the best interest of your cat, he wont real any pain now. So sorry for your loss x

Re: I miss him!

I know it hurts when a decision like this is made. But he would have been in pain even if it didn't seem like it, his body was desperately trying to heal itself hence the long sleeps. You ended his pain and discomfort in the most loving way

Re: I miss him!

I had to make the same decision earlier in year. My cat was 18, he was eating and sleeping ,purring and doing what a cat should do. He did however have what was thought to be a skin tumor and his eyesight and hearing had gone down rapidly. He was just so slow bless. The vet said he had lead a very full happy life but time was running out. We discussed it as a family and decided to have Bobs PTS rather than wait till quality of life went down too.

It will get easier in time, take each day at a time

Re: I miss him!

you really did do the right thing i had a simular situation with a hamster he blew up like a bloon and the vets didnt know what it was and i thought to myself 'what if he gets ill at the weekend or evaing when i cant get him to the vets' at least you kitty wasnt in pain you did him a favour this poem is about a dog really but it could be used for a cat too

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle can`t be won.

You will be sad, I understand,
Don`t let your grief then stay your hand
For this day, more than all the rest
Your love and friendship stands the test.

We`ve had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears.
Would you want me to suffer? So
When the time comes, please let me go.

Take me where my needs they`ll tend
Only stay with me until the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time that you will see
It is a kindness that you do to me
Although my tail it`s last has waved
From pain and suffering I have been saved

Do not grieve it should be you
Who must decide this thing to do.
We`ve been so close, we two these years
Don`t let your heart, hold any tears.

Re: I miss him!

You only did the right thing mate. So not blame your self for its loss. You do what is right although it hurts much.
