R.I.P Casper 17/8/97-17/12/10

Well I honestly never expected to have to do this post so soon but is with the deepest sadness and a heavy heart that I have to announce the death of our dearly beloved African Grey Parrot 'Casper' He sadly passed away in the early hours of Friday 17th December 2010 aged 13 years and 4 months.

Casper first came into our lives when he was around 3 months old and has been with us ever since. He was quiet and very timid at first but as time went along he became a very chatty and friendly bird. The only person I remember him taking a dislike to is my dad as he was the first person who bathed him lol. Whenever he went near the cage,Casper would try to bite him He loved playing with his toys, especially his musical 1. I think he enjoyed the noise it made. He didn't like mirrors tho

We had always tried to feed Casper a healthy and sensible diet but he always preferred to eat when we ate whether it be turkey,beef,chicken,chips......anything apart from fruit! Infact 1 time I remember him banging his cage and ringing his bell for a piece of CANDY FLOSS!! Now I know what people maybe thinking but this never caused him any problems. He never had to visit the vets for any health problems. The only time he ever had to go was for his beak and wings clipping. However, this wasn't a pleasant experience for Casper as he bit the vet and told him to 'F**koff' Luckily the vet saw the funny side!

During his lifetime,Casper learnt many words and phrases. He would often shout the dogs into the room and then tell them to get out. He learnt many swear words and even said 'want s3x' to my mum at 1 pointlol: I remember my Uncles wife visiting us for the first time. She kept asking us to get him out but my mum said 'no not now' but she insisted so we ended up getting him out anyway and he walked along the back of the sofa to her and told her to 'f**koff' It was really funny as she's posh and doesn't swear lol! In the last couple of months in his life he would constantly shout my name and when told I was at work he would say 'Oh f'ing hell'

I was 11 years old when we got Casper so I have pretty much grown up with him. He's always been such a big part of my life so when I heard that he'd died,it felt like my heart had been ripped out and stamped on Not only had I lost my pet parrot,I had also lost something that had overtime become my best friend. I don't even know how he died. He was fine 1 minute and the next,my brother found him dead at the bottom of his cage. We think he was swinging from his bell (which he would often do lol) and then fallen and hit his dead. I suppose we will never know

I will always miss Casper. Everytime I think of him,my heart breaks into a million pieces. I just wish I could share every single memory of him that I have but if I did then i'd be here for days. He should never have died. He should still be here calling my name and asking me for a tickle. It hurts to know that will never happen again.

I love you Casper and I promise that 1 day we will be together again. Your memory will always live on

Gemma

Re: R.I.P Casper 17/8/97-17/12/10

It is so heartbreaking to lose a parrot isn't it. They are like little brothers and sisters & have more quirks and character than anyone who hasn't owned one will ever understand - a parrot can never be "just a bird".

We had a Senegal Parrot called Mojo and although he was only small, didn't talk and could be a massive grouch, he was just the most amazing little bird.

We also lost him too early (tragic accident) and I am not exaggerating when I say I did not stop crying for 3 days. We all loved Mojo so much and even though it is coming up to 5 years since we lost him (25th January 2006), I still can't talk about him at great length without getting upset. I feel sick every time I go over his final days in my head, he did not deserve to go the way he did. I well up every single time I think about that poor little bird & how he struggled to stay with us but just couldn't do it

Remember the good times, however hard it might be.

RIP Casper xxx

So sorry for your loss of Casper. He sounded like an amazing bird full of fun and a great comic.
It's so heart breaking loosing a pet and best friend and i do hope soon his memories will make you smile again.
I too lost a cat a couple of years ago, she was 10 years old and just died, it's horrible because you want to know why but there are no answers.
It does get better in time.
Take care.

So sorry to hear about little Mojo I'm sure he's up on the rainbow bridge flying about with my Casper.

Casper could never be 'just a bird'. He was something else....something special. I don't think anyone can ever truely understand the heartbreak of losing such an animal unless they have experienced it themselves. He had such a great personality and never failed to make me laugh. Anyone that met him would have probably felt the same.

I know it's been less then a week but every day I try to remember the good times I had with him. The house just feels so empty without him. I can't remember it ever being this quiet
