Litter Training

Does anyone have any hints or tips on litter training our new rabbit?
Our other rabbit just seemed to know what to do so we didn't have to worry! But the new one has only used the litter tray once, and has taken to pooing on the floor and weeing on the carpet, it's not good! Thanks

Re: Litter Training

Have you got her a seperate litter box? Is she weeing in one place on the carpet? Its best to limit her to a smaller space to start with and pop the litter tray where she likes to go so she gets used to it. Any poo's pick them up and pop them in her litter tray too. If you can get a bit of newspaper of something she has wee'd on pop that in the litter tray to encourage her to go back. Also a bit of hay to munch on in the corner of ontop of the litter to start with will encourage her to wee in there.

That's the strange thing, it doesn't seem to be in just one place otherwise I would just put the litter tray there! Maybe she doesn't like/isn't used to the pellets we use, I think I am going to try putting just newspaper in there, I think that would be more like what she was used to in her cage before.

Its because shes in a new place, use whatever she was used to weeing on, if shes not used to pellets ths probably it. Took me a while to get saffy and joey to wee on the wood based litter, covering it with newspaper or hay will help. When she does wee in the box make a fuss of her.

Re: Litter Training

She seems to have calmed down now, thanks. I was getting a bit worried there that my carpets would be ruined!

I did try putting newspaper in the tray but Charles just tore it up and run about with it, he thought it was a great game!
