Does anyone else use gravel to clean hutch/run water bottle?

sorry if someone has already written about this but it works really well when the bottles start going a bit greeny, popping a handful of gravel in with the water and shaking for a few minutes, sparkling clean

I use dry rice to clean the water bottles for the girls. It works wonders.

Re: Does anyone else use gravel to clean hutch/run water bottle?

I used to use sea-salt crystals - the large salt crystals you'd put in a salt mill. These work just as well & in the same way as the gravel or rice, and there's no risk of anything getting trapped inside the spout (which would stop it working).... as the salt would eventually dissolve.

It acts as a natural disinfectant too.

I used rice after someone on here suggested it! But it goes so dam soggy and then I struggle to get it out! So I used new fish tank gravel and it worked a treat!!!
