Bonding Sharky and George

So today I put Miffy and George together in a new pen in the kitchen, I put a load of veg down as I had been advised to by my rescue and had read thats what some people do.

Everything was perfect, sitting next to each other, eating etc, I couldnt believe it!!

Then as expected Miffy went for him. she kinda snuck upto his chin then grabbed some fur under his chin and wouldnt let go. I shouted etc as Miffy isnt scared of water, then I had to grab and move her to the other side of the pen.

Round 2 she grabbed a chunk of his ass fur so he did the same and they kinda did this sick circle dance for a second pulling at each others bums. so I grabbed Miffy again and separated.

Round 3 Miffy went for under the chin again, this time when I grabbed her she still had gorge by his chin fur and I lifted them both up for a few seconds .

As I have work tomorrow I decided tonight and the space wasnt right.

I HAVE NOT GIVEN UP!!!!

I was expecting her to be a vicious bitch! as she is like this with me sometimes, she really thinks shes in charge! I will preserver and I will have a happy married couple. but any further HELP!!! would be much appreciated

Re: Bonding Sharky and George

If they are chasing each other in circles I would proberly leave them and just keep watching. When she grabs him, does he try to pull away? If he is accepting she is a b**** then you are far better off!

When I put Rascal with my 2 girls, Gypsy kept wacking him on the head with her paws and he just sat their and took it until she walked away! Marley wouldnt go near him. There was a fair bit of circling. Now its Rascal and Gyp who are all loved up and Marley will sit with them but likes her own space!

She may look like she is hurting him, but I think if he is not responding then he isn't getting hurt if that makes sence. I would imagine she is just saying she is boss!

There will be fur pulling hun, its horrible to watch i know. Have you tried a car journey yet? Id take them out regulary in the car. You need to set aside a whole weekend so you can be with them 24/7 i had a dog crate so i could move them round to whatever room i was in.

Re: Bonding Sharky and George

I havent tried the car journey as Miffy isnt too bothered by them as shes used to me moving house and visiting people so often, George on the other hand was terrified the whole journey back from the rescue .

I made a pen about 2.5 foot by 2.5 foot using some of the metal run panels. I washed it really well with flash and then boiling water and then windowlean (as its vinegar based) and boiling water again. I put down some brand new lino.

George bless him just wanted to eat and Miffy even stole his food, she is such a madam I am worried she will always be selfish. also Miffy is used to being indoors so wasnt at all bothered by me and my boyfriend or the weird smells and I think George was a little stunned by it.

I have Miffys old indoor cage that is only 4foot by 2 foot. Its still a bit stained even after a good wash and scrub. If I soak it with disinfectant and then put some proper smelly vinger all over it will it still be hers in her mind? It would mean I could have them in the bedroom over night rather than in the kitchen.

I know the best thing is to stop a fight happening in the first place. But does any1 have any good tactics to get them apart as Miffy doesnt mind water squirts?

Re: Bonding Sharky and George

Doesnt matter id definetely advise a car journey everyday. As for miffy, trick is to stop her before she attacks, distract her with food or a treat. Does she like banana? You can smudge abit onto their foreheads to encourage them to groom eachother.
