Have I made a mistake? :-(

Hi,

The kits are now 4 weeks old and I thought it would be a good idea to try and re-introduce my two does today (one being the kits mum).

My does are sisters and have never been parted until I discovered the kits! They have never liked being picked up and everything has has to be on 'their terms' but since having the kits me and 'mum' have really bonded to the point where she licks my hands and face now!!!

When I put them together in the run they were not impressed with eachother AT ALL, there was fur flying everywhere. They did calm down a bit but stayed in opposite sections of the run. I only put them together for about 5 mins and thought I'd do it everyday and try and extend the time each day.

Now 'mum' is very wary of me and runs away when I try and stroke her. Have I broke the trust and bond? What should I do?

Hayley

I dont know a lot about bonding rabbits but i have read that the meeting is supposed to be on "neutral" ground, i.e somewhere neither of the rabbits have been before.
Females seem more territorial than males

Re: Have I made a mistake? :-(

I personally would not try to get them back together until the kits are weaned and she has had time to get over them going. She will be very terratorial towards the other female all the time she is nursing kits.

I would get them both spayed before you try to reintroduce them, obviously this will be a little while away yet, otherwise you will struggle as females are notoriously territorial.

I would keep them next to each other in runs, making sure they cant nip each others noses, then once the kits have gone and mum recovers a bit I would have them both spayed as they are likely to get cancers if you dont and be more aggressive. are you 100% sure that your other doe isnt male?
