Handling tips.

Hi, I just got a mini lop rabbit and he is about 7 months old and fairly tame, the only problem is when we first pick him up or return him to his hutch he is scrambling so much his back legs are going mad and he is scratching us, I had the same problem with a previous rabbit when returning him to his hutch , he was in such a hurry to get out of my hands , he scratched us badly which resulted in us handling him less and less.

Re: Handling tips.

If you hold him with two hands around the "waist" area firmly he shouldn't be able to scratch you, that's what we do with ours when he's in a funny mood.

Re: Handling tips.

You need to pick him up by putting your hand under him first, then once he realises your going to pick him up slid you hand under his bum and with your free hand move him on to your arm, once he is on your arm use your free hand to steady him and lift.

As rabbits are a prey specie you should never make a grab for him by bringing your hand over him as this will make him nerves, you could also tempt him to come to you by offering a treat such as a carrot, then go through the above of picking him up.
