Help Please!! Bit Gutted

Hi Everyone,

So I checked my dates and it has been 7 weeks since my lovely Harry (a year and a half old) had the big opp, the reason I took him for this was:

1. He was obsessed with me and wanted to do it with me all the time (if you know what i mean).

2. Because I wanted to get him a friend.

I have chatted wiuth some of you about it and I have been out and got a little girls to keep him company (I got her on Saturday), she is so lovely we names her Honey and she is 8 weeks old. (I have taken on board the advise given abd I will get her neutered when she is old enough and settled in).
As soon as I put them together they didnt fight but he started doing what boy rabbits do constantly.

He has now made his little dinckle very saw, this is just in a day and a bit and I am having to take him to the vets tonight so they can have a look at it and make sure it is ok.

So if someone could give me some advise that could maybe stop him from wanting to do it with little Honey, I would really appresiate it!!

I feel gutted because I just wanted to do the right thing by getting him a friend. Now poor little Honey is getting pestered all the time and Harry has a saw willy.

Thanks

Lisa

xx

There is nothing you can do its natural behaviour that will settle, however it would have been better for you to get an older already neutered girl, unfortunately once youre little buns hormones kick in which for does is weeks before they can be spayed then have time to settle down you have to be prepared for a few problems and keeping an eye on them.

Hi Crofty

Thanks, what kind of problems should I be looking out for?

I did go to my local RSPCA and they only had babies in there.

Thanks

Re: Help Please!! Bit Gutted

Depends on how your little girl develops, if she is mature enough and you have a good vet they can be done from 4 months, some vets like to wait until they are 6 months old, but it should be when they weigh enough and are mature enough which of course varies from bunny to bunny.

When she gets to 12-14 weeks normally you'll see her start to become hormonal, she may be more vocal, or start to jump on you boy and become territorial. Saffy was a rescue baby bun and was a nightmare, i had to have bars between them for 2 weeks after she started to become hormonal and joey got fed up of her jumping on him, he pushed her off and she had a go at him which ended up with a nasty bite to her ear and a big vets bills they did rebond fine after her op. Yours may well be fine but just keep an eye on them, especially her and her behaviour.

Do I get this right, you got your bun from the RSPCA?
I had been talking to our branch about getting Lucky a friend and have been told until she had been spayed (another 3 month away) to keep them seperate.
Incase things like that would happen.

I agree with Crofty just keep an eye on them.

That reminds me I am off to check out a potential friend for Lucky in a bit.

Re: Help Please!! Bit Gutted

Thanks guys for your advise

I didn't end up getting her from the RSPCA, however all they had in was babies and they said to go back at the beinging of July and I would be able to adopt one, they said that they didnt neuter girls. So I thought I would go to the same place where I got Harry as he has been a brilliant little bunny as I know they look after them well.

Harry is a Dwarf Lop and so is she so I know that they will be the same size.

I just want to do the best, I love Harry to bits and love Honey already so much.

Just wanted to get him a friend so he wasnt on his own while I am at work.
