Re: is my lop too young

not all rabbit breeders that supply pets shops are bad breeders i dont but i do run the pet section in a pet shop and all of our regular rabbit and guinea pig breeders do everything for there animals and the 2 main ones breed show rabbits.

but yes we do have alot of people try and bring rabbits in far to young to be away from there mother one old lady bought 18 in the other day and the smallest one was just over 200g i was gob smacked and she tried saying they were 9 weeks old

but (again lol) you baby looks a ok size but does look a little bit young weight him see what he comes out at i wont buy a bunny of people if there under 550g as i cant trust people these days on there correct age

he is a cutie though

Re: is my lop too young

You definitely can't go on ears to tell you the age as it can differ quite a lot.
If he is not a purebred lop one ear may even always stay up which can happen.I had a lop cross who always had one ear up and one ear down which just looked so cute.
Well bre french lops ears should have dropped by 10 weeks at the latest .

Yes they are, anyone can walk in your shop claim to have a great home waiting and walk out with a rabbit straight away, a breeder that cares where their rabbits go wont sell to a pet shop that encourages impulse buying.

Petshops dont sell cats and dogs for this reason, rabbits are a high maintence pet and should not be sold in shops. Petshops also sell disgracefully small hutches/cages for the rabbits, pah only sell one hutch i would say is reasonable to keep a rabbit in, i havent seen any in any other petshop, i think majority of pet shops are cruel and like it or not they are selling these animals to make money.

I have lost count at the amount of times people have dumped their young rabbits at a rescue door or advertising them on freeads with the excuse of i bought this rabbit for my kids and they are bored. Or like someone else said on here, i bought my rabbits without thinking, after two months i realise they are hard work and i dont have enough time for them. Petshops are the reason rescues are overflowing with rabbits, and yet alot of people cant be bothered to go to a rescue so they walk into a petshop and buy one, its a never ending circle.

This is not a go at you at all, you must love animals to work in a pet shop but i have four rescue buns myself and have friends that run rescues, its just so sad to see all these neglected buns thrown away like old toys.

He can be vaccinated now, mxyi is 6 monthly and vhd is yearly, id have the myxi done first then you have to wait for 2 weeks in between jabs before he can have his vhd. I would personally wait until he at least has the myxi jab.

Its true after now owning 2 buns for about 4 months I am shocked that they are sold in petshops...they really are hard work and expensive pets (not that im complaining Id get my buns all over again if I didnt have them) so yeah I really dont think they should be sold in petshops just like cats and dogs arnt!

I remember there was 1 petshop near my house when I was growing up and I hated it but now looking back I think the owners are so good. The amount of times when I was a little kid that I go turned away from buying a single gold fish lol... they would ask hpw many I had and where I would be keeping it. I would innocently say yeah I got 3 more and they are really happy in their bowl and with that they would say sorry you need a bigger tank bye!!! I used to hate them but now I realise they were looking out for the fish!
