Grass v Hay? Who wins?

Mopsy and Peter both have 6 foot runs attached to their hutches so they can get out on the grass any time they like. I also let them take it turns to have some free range time in the garden. Cos of this they eat LOADS of grass and some of my plants esp the herbs.

Neither of them really eat much hay at the moment, I'm guessing cos they are too full of grass. Is grass better or worse than hay?

Both are important, they probably will eat less hay if on grass this time of year, I would cut down on the veg if they are having lots of grass in the day, mine get less in the summer, especially if they are out in the whole garden all day so they will eat their hay overnight.

Re: Grass v Hay? Who wins?

mine eat loads of hay as they dont get much chance to get to grass. although they all have massive runs i have had to put them on paving slabs as they kept digging to try and escape and other animals were digging the other side of the cage. and i also cant let them have the run of the garden at the mo because my neighbours fench has been taken down

i do pick grass for them daily and the get there veg but i no mine need more grass time

Good idea... ill deff cut down the amount of veg my 2 get as they spend all day on the grass and they munch munch munch away at it so ill give them a real small amount of veg and hopefully they can munch on some fresh sweet smelling hay all night long!

To be honest if they are out all day, mine get abit of veg as a treat now and then, i wouldnt feed them it regulary as long as they are on plenty of grass.
