Re: can i get midi spayed &....

Its much easier to neuter male rabbits. Word of warning however, they dont become infertile for 4-6 weeks following surgery.

Spaying rabbits in my clinic is about £70. Rabbits used to pose a much higher risk than they do with the anaesthetics we use these days. Its pretty routine. Death rate is about one in 500. Tiny risk compared to the older anaesthetics we used..

good luck

Re: can i get midi spayed &....

Yes its easier to neuter male rabbits but does 80% of unspayed does develop cancer of the uterus!

I would get them both done frags, otherwise your buck once he's sexually mature will probably hassle her and could end up in a nasty fight.

Re: can i get midi spayed &....

Its £45 for a spay at my vets and £35 for a neuter which is really good!

There's a nationwide vet called Petvax and they offer quite cheap spaying & neutering

Hi Frags

Down here i paid £56 for Barney's neutering but Stan's is going to be £70, i think it is usually more expensive for does!

Im getting Stan done when he is about 5 months old but im so scared about the anasthetic after Dave dying while he was under, its soo risky but i think most are ok!

Re: can i get midi spayed &....

Id personally get both done when the time is right for each.

Spaying wil obviously stop any unwanted pregnancies, but what it to stop your male from constantly mounting your female, even when spayed? Neutering should put a stop to unwanted sexual behaviour.

I had my male done when he was old enough (hes 18 months now) and when my female is old enough, she will be done aswell. Shes already hit sexual maturity and humps Norbert and urinates all over him.

Unless you try it, you wont know. There is a chance they may get on, there is a chance they wont.

As she wont be coming into season, he may very well leave her alone. You will only find out through trial and error.

Re: can i get midi spayed &....

In my experiences an un-neutered buck will hump everything and anything until castrated. I'm pretty sure if you have Midi spayed she would still have a lot of unwanted attention from Dexter, which might cause problems with them getting alone if Midi gets fed up with the humping she might turn on Dexter. If Dexter doesn't hump Midi them go for it just be wary that the phrase "humping like rabbits" didn't come from no where.

I know when I first got my Charlie until he was castrated I let him release his frustrations on a soft toy rabbit so my hand was safe from being humped when trying to give him his dinner.
