Flake and Daisy wee having a run of the full garden this morning as usual and all seemed fine. Since we have had them Daisy always shows her authority by mounting Flake and up until today he has never had a problem with this. Infact usually he seems to quietly sit there until she has got it out of her system lol!
Today she started mounting him and he was fine with it but then after a while it looked as if he wanted to mount her but she wasnt hhaving it. For a short while it looked very cute as they were circling round and round trying to mount each other but then suddenly Flake went ape He really went wild pouncing and diving at poor Daisy and all I saw was chunks of her fur flying every where... I ran outside and heard lots of noise and then suddenly Daisy was just lying down on the floor and Flake was off doing his own thing. Usually if I approach them when they are free in the garden its difficult to actually pet them unless they come up to me as they run off. Daisy however seemed to be in shock and just lay they cold and still while I stroked her and stroked her and softly spoke to her. I then got her carrier and put her in it and took her inside with lots of straw and hay to her cage. She seemd to be in shock there too just sitting them motionless!Mamaged to get Flake in too and put him with her. There was none of their usually greetig and nose rubbing she just gave him the col shoulder and he the same. After a while Flake did try and nuzzle his head under her front leg but she turned away!!! Was this harmless fighting or could it have been serious if I didnt intervene? As far as I can see Daisy doesnt seem to have any bites or anything just chunks or fur came out!

Re: Play fighting or Real Fighting?
My female Old English has just come into season for the first time, and is harrassing her partner, a neutered male Dutch. She humps him constantly, both his head and his rump, and urinates all over him. After a while he gets a bit peed off and lets her know this, after a little chasing and fur pulling, they both have a lie down, as its obviously a tiring experience. Its like they zone out for a few minutes, as normally its hards to get near my Old English, but when shes like this, i can just walk up to her and pick her up.
Mine have free run of my garden, and there are plenty of places where they can get away from eachother. Personally id just leave yours too it, unless the scuffles turn into full on fights. Putting them in an enclosed space, ie hutch or cage, is just limiting their ability to get away from eachother, and more likely to end up in more serious injury if things start to go wrong. |

Re: Play fighting or Real Fighting?
Yes just keep an eye on them as a little scuffle can turn into a nasty fight. If they lock onto eachother then you need to separate them immediately, this can sometimes cause the bond to be permanently broken as well as causing serious injury.

Re: Play fighting or Real Fighting?
When they lock onto each other they either grab each other and lie on their sides and start kicking, or they lock teeth and whirl around .I think it sounds like he'd just had enough of her showing him who was boss. Mine have a little spat occasionally and there are little chunks of fur. She might just have been a bit out of breath afterwards and sulking. It is worrying I know but it's to be expected when two rabbits (or people!) live together 24 hours a day.
