Minion isn't eating his normal food

It must be a rabbit thing at the moment...

Minion has had the same food since we got him. It's called Blueberry Warren and it's really expensive and really good for him. He's always eaten it like it was running out and has never eaten anything else but lately he's stopped. My dad gave him some crappy cheap food that he eats but it makes his poops a little runny. The only thing I can get him to eat at the minute is Curly Kale and carrot but I always thought you had to ween rabbits onto new food if you wanted to change but he's just not eating it. Shall I just move him onto an all veg diet and slowly introduce things to get the right balance of nutrients? Cauliflower did not go down well. The look I got after he tried that! Hopefully he'll try other things though.

What is the nutrition content of this mix? I can't find it online
How much do you normally give him?
Did he stop eating it after his neuter?

Re: Minion isn't eating his normal food

Blueberry Warren is a rabbit "rescue" based near Newton Abbot they also breed rabbits. I have met people who tell me the hutches are filthy and the bottles black with algae.

Blueberry Warren mix is mainly redigrass with a few bits of squashed peas and cooked corn in. It is not a complete food for rabbits

Redigrass is fine to feed rabbits but should be limited as it contains quite a bit of calcium which can lead to bladder stones.

I would also be dubious about the age of the ingredients being resold as Blueberry Warren mix who knows where they have come from

Really you want to feed a good quality all in pellet like Excel or Allan and Page. You can buy Excel in the pets at home in Plymouth, Big H Pet Store even The Range sell it.

Oh but most importantly a rabbits diet should be 80-90% hay!

Oh, I had no idea. It is just the food he was fed on when we got him. It's quite expensive but we didn't want to change it if he was fine eating it. We use hay for his bedding and in a swinging ball that he has and he loves curly kale even on his off days when he won't eat anything else. I've been told the pellet one is good before by someone at pets at home but I figured they were just trying to sell their own product. Is it like the brown sticks that come in generic rabbit food because he leaves them. Thank you.

P@H pellets are pretty rubbish really as it only contains 15% crude fibre.
You want to change over to a good pellet with a crude fibre of 19% or more.
Good pellets are Science Selective, Burgess Excel (although this has been known to cause mucky bums in some rabbits) or Allen & Page Natural.
The reason he leaves the pellets in the mix is because he is selective feeding, feeding pellets eliminates this

Re: Minion isn't eating his normal food

you only need to feed a handful of pellets so they work out quite cost effective, the rest of the diet should be hay and veggies
