Vet advised me to delay Buddy's Myxy jab?

Is this good advice?! Buddy is due his myxomatosis jab, as his last one was six months ago. However, the vet I spoke to at my practice wasn't overly concerned and suggested that I delay the jab by a couple of months. He said that myxy wasn't overly prevalent in the colder months and it might make sense to give Buddy the jab around March/April time instead, once it starts warming up, so that he is then 'better protected' during the warmer spring and summer months.

Obviously I'm no vet, so I don't really know if this makes sense or not! I'm sure he knows what he's talking about. However, I don't really see what difference it makes - he's either protected or he isn't - and I don't like the thought of leaving Buddy unprotected regardless of whether there's hardly any risk.

Has anyone's vet ever told them something similar? What are your thoughts on this advice - would you delay?

I see where the vet is coming from tbh, biting insects (the main culprit for speading myxi) aren't about at the mo and a rabbit is most protected by the vaccine for the first couple of months.
Do you have any way a wild infected rabbit could come anywhere near Buddy?
If the answer is no I personally would wait to get him vaccinated at risky times for full protection.

Thanks, Bernie, for your prompt & helpful reply as always.

That makes sense. Due to our garden setup and location, I think it's near to impossible that an infected rabbit could somehow get near Buddy. I'll take the vet's - and your - advice and hold off for a couple of months so that he'll be better protected during the riskier months. Thank you for the reassurance.

Mine get done in May and November. The vacination used to be licensed for 1 year but is now 6months. I would agree that in this cold weather its very low risk, perhaps it would be wise to alter his cycle and have him done in spring

Re: Vet advised me to delay Buddy's Myxy jab?

Yep - I'm now thinking I will alter his cycle gradually based on this info. I might now take him in around March/April time for his Myx jab. This way it won't leave him unprotected for too long, but I can wait and see how the weather's warming up in March and go from there.

Wow - so much to think about with bunnies! My cat just gets all his jabs in one go once a year and that's it!

Hi
My 2 were due in December but I decided to wait just a couple of months for same reason.
