Handmade Hutch- My Idea :)

Hi
I am planning on getting 2 bunnies. To be housed indoors. I wanted an attractive hutch so had this idea..

I plan to get a wooden reptile viverium, remove the glass doors, replace with mesh, and plastic coat the vaunerable wood along the runners from bunnies.
I know little about bunnies, so I am learning.
But I do know the wood cant poison and its waterproof....

Any thoughts would be greatly apreciated.

Thankyou

i think to get a big enough viv you would be looking at a good £100+
you could make a C&C cage for much much less, or buy a 48" dog crate and add shelves

Yes they are very expensive, but as I own a lizard, her tank has become part of the furniture, which gave me the idea. The only reason my partner wont allow a house rabbit, is because the plastic cages dont look very nice.
Its very cosmetic from his point of view unfortunately, but I have to respect his wishes. So, if it is suitable and safe for bunnies, then it would be perfect.

I hate to say it but the wood used for viv's is actually toxic to rabbits, also with the size you would need it would take up most of the room

Is it really? As its used for reptiles, i figured it could be used, also easy to clean?
I have a large room for it, i currently house a 4x2x2 viv and planned for the same size again?!

Reptiles can't chew the wood, and plasticote won't protect it from bunny teeth believe me
And that size viv is far, far too small I'm afraid,

If it is the aesthetics your OH is worried about, why not bunny proof a room and have them free range, thats what I do

Re: Handmade Hutch- My Idea :)

you need a minimum of a 6' x 2' x 2' hutch for a rabbit WITH an attached 6 x 8 pen (or equivalant) so you really would need a MASSIVE viv

Re: Handmade Hutch- My Idea :)

Agree with B3rnie & Lil Miss, that size viv is nowhere near big enough & I'd be very concerned about the materials it was built from being suitable for bunnies

Re: Handmade Hutch- My Idea :)

Thankyou for the help.
I figured that in the shop they can house them in a larger version of a viv.
I planned to allow them out when I am home, which is most of the time, also to have a large pen in the garden for the wamer days.

Thankyou
x
