Exclamation Chloe is NOT right...

Not sure where else to turn...

Those who have seen my posts will get the sense that I LOVE my bunnies, family wise they are all I have and they are very well cared for.

Yesterday morning I awoke to find Joey in his usual morning spot waiting for his morning hay and stroke behind his ears. No Chloe... Very unusual. I found her lay down in the garage/bunny room. I asked her to come to me but she didn't move. She didn't move when I replenished her hay box. I sat on the floor which normally makes her come jump in my lap, she got up, sniffed me and lay down again. This carried on for an hour by this point I called into work to say I wasn't going in and took her the vets. The vet couldn't find anything wrong with her and said it was probably old age/possibly depression (she's 13). Took her home but wasn't happy so today I took her to another vet recommended by a friend. She said it was probably old age.

She's eating, she's pooping, she's having wee wee, she has all her jabs and check ups. But I know my Chloe, I have lived with her for 13 years. And if it is old age she can't go from running around the house after Joey one day to having hardly any energy the next. Surely it would be a gradual thing? And I don't buy the depression theory I have always known the tricks to get her excited, I even brought her an enormous new box home today from the supermarket which any other day would have her literally binkying for joy, but not today.

I know my bunny, the vets say she's fine, but she's not. Any help or suggestions eagerly received... I can't loose one of my babies they are all I've got

Hi Lil Miss, thankyou for replying so quickly...

I've just checked her fur, there is alittle fur coming off when I stroke her but nothing like when she usually sheds. As a precaution I'll keep stroking her all over until there is nothing at all coming off.

Re: Chloe is NOT right...

It sounds like something has spooked her. I'm no expert, but like you, I know my buns too and if this happened I'd know she's not happy about something. Is she still ok with Joey? Are they still grooming each other/does their relationship seem affected at all? Has there been any change in her environment/scents around her? Are you using a new aftershave/fabric conditioner etc/ has there been a new scent/change in their environment? It could be as something as simple as that. I don't want to blame it on her age, cos her vets doing that seem to be clutching at straws. But maybe cos of her age, her sight might not be so good, so her other senses like scent are ultra-sensitive. And some small change might just have spooked her.

Sorry no more helpful solutions than that

Re: Chloe is NOT right...

Rascal has had 2 or 3 days(seperate) where he has been lethargic and not wanting to do much but when he got to the vets he was ok. She said it was most likely a small ammount of bloat but because of his age and the fact he is healthy he got rid of it himself. Could it be a touch of bloat but because she is older she is having more trouble. Try putting something warm for her to lay against (a drinks bottle filled with hot water works as a temp thing), that helped Rascal alot.

Re: Chloe is NOT right...

Thankyou all, it's so nice to get some helpful suggestions.

At the moment Joey is snuggled up with her and I don't think anything seems different in their relationship. Environment-wise I put 2 shelves up in the garage last weekend, very high level and I have been using a new aftershave recently which I got for Xmas. I won't take any chances I will stop using it.

I guess it is possible something has spooked her, possibly a noise from outside or if someone banged on the garage door or something. if that's the case that it hasn't helped me dragging her for 2 car journeys to the 2 different vets.... But I didn't have much choice I had to do that.

I will put a hot water bottle out for her incase she wants to be near that tonight and see how she is in the morning. I'm glad Joey is snuggling with her it might help her feel better.

I will keep you all updated and thankyou again... I can always count on you guys x

Re: Chloe is NOT right...

i would maybe try her with a little bit of pineapple juice too for a couple of days, just incase its a bit of fur ingestion thats causing her a slight tummy upset (not a complete obstruction but enough to bother her)

Re: Chloe is NOT right...

Hi everyone..

Just a quick update, Chloe seemed alittle better this morning and abit more active.

My friend stayed in the house with the buns today while I went to work and she said that Chloe ran after Joey at one point to play.

When I came home from work I was greeted with a binky! Made daddy so happy! She still seems 'sluggish' but I'm so happy she seems alittle better at least. I gave her alittle pineapple juice last night and again this morning so if it was her tummy it might have helped...

Thanks again for all the tips while I was completely freaking out yesterday!
