Marley keeps attacking my cat.

My wee foster bunny, Marley, continually goes for my cat. He tends to charge up to her and kick her. It's not been anything serious but he does scare my cat. She tends to sit on the sideboard to stay clear of him. Well, tonight he went for her again but with such force and violence. He went for her neck and I had to scream to get him off her!! I've never seen anything quite like it before. All the size of him too. I am surprised that he didn't get her draw blood. Scary stuff!

Is this common? What do I do to try to have him stop this behaviour? Can this behaviour be corrected, if so ... how? Sorry for questions.

I was planning to come on here tonight to ask for advice about how to hold him to groom him as he's Aangora. He is the worst rabbit I have ever tried to hold. He fights constantly to get free. Is there any particular type of hold that would mean I could hold him securely and brush him?

My 2 are very used to being handled and brushed, Its something that you've got to stick with. will he let you brush him on the floor? If not it might be an idea to wait til you have a friend over that can firmly hold him while you give him a gentle brush. He'll soon learn to appreciate it mine both purr when there being brushed

Wow that's pretty dramatic! Perhaps just try to wrap Marley in a towel when u pick him up? Then he'll feel secure. Perhaps try and rub some of his scent from hay etc on the towel first so he's not so scared. Poor bun. Hope he settles soon. (and your cat is ok too!)

Re: Marley keeps attacking my cat.

I emailed the girl who works with the rabbits in the rescue where Marley is from. She said that she thinks that he has bonded with me and thinks I am his girlfriend and so needs to protect me. He sees my Lucy as a threat. He's being dominant and I need to become dominant and show him he is not the boss.
He has never been aggressive with me other than grunt when I touched him when he eats. He's a sweet little guy and enjoys laying down and me stroking him. It the cat he doesn't like and being held.
I can comb him when he is eating a treat or lying down but I can't get at his legs.
Thanks for replies

Re: Marley keeps attacking my cat.

One of my rabbits thought our male cat was a female rabbit and would try to hump him and the cat would refuse to go outside unless I carried him to the fence for a quick escape and would sit on the fence meowing until I picked him up off it and bought him in.

I had 2 baby rabbits that also thought he was female but tried to milk him! He was so confused he just tapped them away with the back of his paw before resuming his position on the fence.

He did have one success though. Snuggles. He used to sleep in the hutch with Snuggles in the daytime and curl himself into a ball around him and they'd play tag in the garden. He even launched a curious kitten into a bush for going near the rabbit. It was actually really sad though because I came home from shopping one day to the cat crying like he was in pain and he was sat on the rabbit hutch looking in. The rabbit had died for an unknown reason while I was out and the cat was distraught. I tried to bring him in while my dad buried the rabbit but he wouldn't leave the rabbit and tried to dig him up. I eventually got him in and I just sat on the floor crying with him. I know it sounds strange but I didn't think cats had tear ducts...

Just goes to show some cats and rabbits do get on
