Why don't they play any more?
I have 2 rabbits (from RSPCA) huge hutch and run, they have boxes/tunnels/a digging area/ball/treat dispenser/plenty of hay and a good quality food, but most of the time they just sit side by side not wanting to run about and have fun anymore. I've had them 2 yrs now (they are about 6yrs old,) fit and healthy,( just had boosters and vet check) So have they just 'slowed down' because of their age? I change their toys regularly to give them variety so don't know what else to do, any suggestions?

Re: Why don't they play any more?
Mine dont play either, they are both about 7-8 years old and I just put it down to them getting a little older although they never really wanted to play much before anyway.
They have tons of toys, tunnels, things to jump on and stuff but rarely use anything. I think bunnies prefer to just snuggle and snooze than play lots though, I've never known any bunnies that are majorly playful. |

Re: Why don't they play any more?
Thanks for that, I spend ages constructing things out of cereal boxes/cartons etc, but they show no interest, as long as there is nothing wrong with them I will just think of them as being ungrateful little whatsits! (the rats I used to have adored playing with my 'constructions')

Re: Why don't they play any more?
Same as others have said really... I have Joey who is 2yo and Chloe who turns 13 this month. Joey loves to run, play, explore... Chloe just wants to be wherever Joey is, so she follows him around and will occasionally play chase with him, but certainly doesn't play as much as he does.

I'll put bobz in his run and he will just sit there, but as soon as he is on his lead he runs round really happy

Re: Why don't they play any more?
I may be the only one who's eldest rabbit is the nuttiest!
Mclaren is 5 1/2 (which for a XL breed is fairly old) and he is the naughtiest, cheekiest of the lot, as soon as I am at the gate he wants out into the garden and he always has to do something that he shouldnt! Rascal is about the same age, maybe even a little older (rescue so not sure) and he loves nothing more than exploring the garden! Then you have Kimba who is by far the laziest rabbit of the lot and she is only 18 months! Mine dont play in their tunnels, occasionally in a carboard box. They like their treat balls and small boxes with treats in, I also hang their veg up on kebab sticks or tie some string around the broccoli's stalk and hang that. I dont allow them to be lazy when it comes to food ![]() I find my boys are the cheeky, playful buns and my girls arn't so bothered. *Heidi*

Re: Why don't they play any more?
I made them a treat feeder out of an orange carton and put chopped carrot in it, they weren't at all interested, but it was empty this morning, so must be playing when I'm not looking! thanks for all your imput, it's so nice to hear about everyone else's bunnies
