Is this mad?

I am planning on making changes and improvements to my rabbit shed and run. It will all be done gradually as I have to save money for it all. I received a US$ cheque today for $150.00. It will take up to a month to clear and I plan to finally get lino for the shed and possibly an electric light.

Would it be sensible to have an electrician run a cable from my kitchen into the shed (about 3 ft) to get a light and possibly an electric outlet. I was giving thought to having some type of heater. Does this sound mad and if not, what type of heater would be best? I know I couldn't put heat in there now but thinking next Winter.

Anyone have any thoughts about this? Any other ideas about changes I can make in the shed? I am aiming to change my run into an Aviary type and to put insulation in and another shelf for storage. Hopefully in the new run I hope to have another level for them to climb in that will be safe.
Thanks.

Re: Is this mad?

It's not mad to have electric running to the shed
But I would worry with a heater as it is a potential fire risk, but I'm a worrier

Re: Is this mad?

Thanks Bernie - it was running an electric heater in the shed that I thought might be mad I am a worrier too and that is what would cause me to not put a heater in.

Re: Is this mad?

Not mad! My husband wants to run electric cable to our shed as we've realised how awkward it is having no proper lighting up there now it's winter. We have a electric lantern-style torch we take up there when it's dark, but it's obviously nowhere near as conveninent as being able to light the shed fully. We'll probably do this for next winter, now.

I don't think we will bother with any type of heating though; to echo you & B3rnie it does seem like it could be too much of a potential worry. I think a combination of insulation, heaps of snuggly hay & straw, a vet bed and snugglesafe heat pad is plenty to keep little bunnies warm in the winter!

Re: Is this mad?

I've recently put power sockets in my shed and got some lights up. It's so much easier dealing with them with proper light.
I'm researching greenhouse/kennel heaters at the moment. They seem like the best option as they cost so little to run. The aim of them is just to keep the temperature above freezing I think and need to be on all the time.

Re: Is this mad?

I've pretty much alwys had power in my shed.
I am running 3 things at the moment, all on timers, I have the 3 lights inside which come on for a couple of hours in the morning and in the evening. I have rope lights outside which come on when its dark and a radio which is on all day for them
I have considered a heater but I to am worried about fires, so I never have, just lots of bedding and lots of bunny bundles!
