A complete and total disaster.

Got home late today, got a plate of dinner off the stove and headed upstairs to settle down and relax. The dog followed me up the stairs because I had food (of course). Honey always gets a little scared when he hears the dog footsteps, or any steps on the stairs for that matter. But he has never reacted like this.

Anyways, went into my room to turn the light on, and Honey completely FLIPPED out--he vaulted over his pen, which was closer to my bed than it usually is because he's taken to trying to push it around, and he landed on my bed and then ran off of it. Like an idiot, I put my plate of food (kielbasa and rice) on my bed because it's what was closest to me, and went to slowly walk over to calm Honey down. He saw me coming and didn't move, but then the dog followed me over and as soon as Honey saw the dog he jumped back up onto the bed, ran across it, ended up with all of his feet in my plate of food, tried to jump off the bed but was slipping in rice, and when he finally got down, rice and kielbasa flew EVERYWHERE. The rabbit ran to the corner of the room, the dog started eating food off the floor, and my rats were at the front of their cage begging for scraps. I went to Honey, calmed him down and checked him over (he was fine but wasn't happy with the checking over part), grabbed the dog and threw him out of the room (not literally), and began picking food up off the floor. Listened to Honey thump his back foot about six times because he was pissed. Put blankets into the wash. Made myself some mac and cheese. Gave the rats some of the fallen rice and kielbasa.

Honey isn't afraid of the dog, usually; he'll go right up to him and they'll basically touch noses. And since Hunter is an old guy, he doesn't bother with the rabbit at all. And as for the stairs, Honey will get a little scared sometimes when you walk in, but he quickly realizes "Oh, it's just you." Sometimes he doesn't react at all and he looks bored. But tonight was an epic fail. I've never seen Honey get that spooked. We must've completely surprised him.

I also think I'll be finding grains of rice around my room for the next couple weeks.

Re: A complete and total disaster.

oh dear . my dinner was an epic fail as well.

i decided since it was yule to do a roast beef joint , veg roast potatoes etc .
im a lousy cook at the best of times but i had it all planned and read the instructions about a hundred times.

i took the joint out after two and half hours , stuck a knife in to it and watched the blood flow .

mmmm not rare try raw. of course everything else was already cooked ( well i use the word cooked loosely )

an hour later the joint was done , so i dished up the reheated veg and potatoes and made fresh gravy.

my boyfreind would eat anything he could fit in his mouth . i asked him what he thought ..he said yes its ok , i was " ok " 3 hours in the oven and its just ok . so he says well the potaoes are hard and the veg is underdone but the joints fine.

i could have cried . everyone ate it all but i was miserable then so i gave mine to the dog and had a mince pie instead.

Honey's already settled down again; he's stretched out on my bed with his back legs straight out behind him. Like nothing ever happened. I THINK I got all of the rice out of my rug...

Natty, I give you props for trying a fancy dinner--I aim for simplicity pretty much all of the time. Either way, I'm sure our animals are happy with the outcome of such dinner disasters.

Aww, hun....! Bless. Life's never straight forward with animals around, is it?! Sounds like your dog and the rats did alright out of the situation...and glad Honey seems to have settled back down. Isn't is weird how they sometimes just get spooked for no apparent reason (that we can see)?

I have to say, I had a good giggle at both dinner disasters!

I'm getting used to rabbits freaking out at the moment Jana goes mental the second I step into the shed! I have 4 looking at me like "hey mum, wheres the food" and 3 leg it out of the dog flap!
