Re: New family member coming next week!

Hi
Thats a lovely looking bunny, she/he will need to go to the vets for her/his myxomatosis and vhd vaccinations, the vet will give her/him a good check over and sex it for you. You will also want to have him/her neutered and get them a friend.

To be honest its cheaper to get 2 rabbits from a rescue centre than doing this yourself and there are 30,000 rabbits sat in rescue centers in the UK.

Re: New family member coming next week!

Im getting her from a family friend, she rescued in all 26 rabbits from her 'old' next door neighbour, she had passed away and a family friend took them in and is finding home for them all, I think 3 had to go to a rescue centre as they where in bad shape. Im taking her/him to the vets straight after xmas, and for now she will be alone untill i can buy a big enough cage for two.
Thanks x

Re: New family member coming next week!

its been a terrible year for mixi because the autumn been so warm and humid, you only need 1 flee or 1 mite to infect her. I really would recommend having this done as soon as you get her.

Why not wait until after Christmas to rehome then? Especially as you will need to get him/her a friend vaccinations are very, very important especially VHD as it is a silent killer but 99.9% effective (no vaccine will claim to be 100%) Also your vet nurse friend should be able to tell you the sex

Re: New family member coming next week!

Im taking her/him next week as my friend has quite a few of rabbits that she rescued already, the veterinary nurse checked over the rabbits one by one quickly once my friend brought them to her home. I didnt intend for everyone to tell me what to do with my own animal, but i do agree she needs her jabs. I asked the vets since she was rescued can i have any cost off the vet bill but he said no, so i do need to wait untill after christmas. I have had over 8 rabbits in the past.

Re: New family member coming next week!

Just chipping in to empathise to an extent - I took on a single bunny when I 'rescued' him from a family member who couldn't care for him, and I had to react to suddenly having an animal I hadn't really planned on! I should add that I would have struggled without some of the instant advice and support I found on this forum.

I agree that it's tough finding money for vet bills. My local vet have a pet plan, where you can pay a small amount per month towards essentials like jabs and flea and worm treatments. Perhaps it's worth investigating if any of your local vets offer anything similar? This really helped me spread the payments as I knew that jabs etc. were one thing I couldn't compromise on.

I hope your new arrival settles in well - good luck!
