Dog keeps lickin rabbit??

I have a dog. She isnt much bigger than my rabbit an hes tiny really an only about 19 weeks old.

But she keeps lickin him til he is literally drentched. I do tel her off but he doesnt seem too bothered really.

Just wonderin if there was any reason she was doin this. An if anyone elses dogs did the same.

Re: Dog keeps lickin rabbit??

One of my dogs does it to my guinea pigs, but not the rabbits. I think it's just a friendly grooming thing. My 'pigs are indoor piggies, so i don't worry about them getting cold from the dribble. Maybe finding something to distract your dog might help. Mine will stop whatever their doing to chase a tennis ball.

Re: Dog keeps lickin rabbit??

My mums cat does the same to her rabbit, I think they're just grooming them.....or having a taste!
Animals do groom each other so your dog probably just thinks the rabbit is her little friend and she's looking after him, if the rabbit isn't bothered and you keep an eye on them to make sure the dog doesn't bite then it's fine.

Re: Dog keeps lickin rabbit??

For what it is worth I think this is really dangerous.
How do you know your dog will not bite? The answer is you don't, you will only know once it has bitten and I don't fancy your rabbits chances of survival if it does. Please for the safety of your rabbit keep them seperate.

I'm with Jo-pop on this one, especially as the dog looks like a terrier from the OP's avatar
It isn't something I would encourage..

Re: Dog keeps lickin rabbit??

Wen the rabbits out he does wat he wants an my dog stays by myside always she never leaves alone. She only licks hin wen hes on my knee.

He is totally safe! I even lock the cats in the kitchen wen hes out. Thry greet him an sometimes look like their gettin abit to playful an lookin like they wil pounce so thry go in kitchen.

So its only wen hes sat on my knee. An i try an push her away but she keeps tryin! Its strange.
