Need your Help..

Water bottle cozy's - are they worth it?

Our rabbits water bottles froze terribly last year - as I'm sure a few on here's did too, we were having to defrost and refill several times a day opposed to just the normal once a day.. so as we are going out to buy them new water bottles whilst we're out tomorrow I just want to know if it would be worth buying the cozy's just incase it does get bad with snow like it did last year..

Thanks

Re: Need your Help..

I know few people that use them with great success but they aren't something I have used so I don't know for certain.
Some people put a couple drops of glycerine in the water as this raises the temp needed to freeze the water, you just have to make sure you don't use too much

Re: Need your Help..

I have heard, though never tried it, that bubble wrap works a treat too. But have never used anything. Long winters of many trips out a day to change water....maybe this is the year to experiment!

Haha yes that is understandable really. Well people have used them successfully, but if it gets even colder you could always combine different methods, inc bubble wrap

Re: Need your Help..

When my bunnies were outside I used to wrap the bottle in bubble wrap and then put a thick sock over that. It worked, my bunnies water didn't freeze

Re: Need your Help..

I've just got the classic ones, this is the first year I have tried them, got them as they were a bargain, they are pretty much a neoprene sock! I have use thick sports socks in the past, but they still froze. Used glycerine last year and apart from a couple of -8 nights, they didnt freeze up.
I also use bowls aswell in the winter so they can lick the ice if all else fails.
